As the name suggests, Bloodstone is an excellent blood cleanser and healer. It was used widely by the ancient Egyptians who believed it to have mystical and magical properties, enabling them to control weather patterns and banish evil.
Tempranillo is a Spanish red grape variety prone to high vigour and large crops. The Tempranillo at Gemtree is planted in a soiltype that naturally restricts root and water penetration, thus having a positive effect on the vigorous nature of this variety. Irrigation is carefully managed to maximise vine health and fruit quality.
This, our 3rd release of Bloodstone Tempranillo was vinified traditionally in open fermenters and basket pressed to retain the natural tannin balance. The 2004 Bloodstone is our best yet, with near perfect growing conditions in the 04 vintage resulting in a wine which is an outstanding example of the variety.
Colour: Black/Purple.
Nose: Dried fruit, brandied butter, cloves, allspice and dark black fruits.
Palate: A burst of juicy dark prune/Christmas cake fruits, followed by spice and integrated supple tannins give a soft textural mouthfeel. Will drink well with spicy food and chorizo sausage.
Cellar: now 15 years.
