The 2005 Shiraz Green's Vineyard was sourced from old vines in the Vine Vale region of the Barossa cropped at 1.0 ton per acre and aged in 100% new French hogsheads for 27 months. It exhibits a fragrant perfume of pencil lead, tar, smoke, roasted meat, black cherry, and blackberry leading to a mouth-coating, super-rich wine with enormous depth and length. It will profit from 3-4 years in the cellar and can then be enjoyed through 2025.

| Wijngoed informatie | "Kilikanoon has done it again in the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge. 3 wines in the top 50, with 2003 Oracle (note the year!) scoring 18.7 and coming third overall. 2003 Covenant missed out on gold by the narrowest of margins and 2003 Killerman's Run scored a high silver as well. The Killermans Run performance is outstanding for a sub $20 retail wine when considering other silver medal wines such as Grant Burge Meschach ($98), Leasingham Classic Clare ($49.99), Wirra Wirra RSW ($50), Taylors St Andrews ($60) and Langmeil Freedom ($100), all excellent wines with excellent pedigrees. This follows the double gold awarded to the 2002 Killermans Run at the 2005 San Francisco International Competition earlier this year. With only 10 or 11 gold medals awarded ( out of 323 wines this year), the VisyBoard Great Australian Shiraz Challenge is Australia's premier red wine event. Kilikanoon Oracle is the only wine, and Kilikanoon the only winery to win gold medals in the last three years of the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge. Two years ago, Kilikanoon made history when, for the first time, two wines from the same winery were awarded gold medals in the 2003 Challenge. Judge James Halliday wrote at the time Winelines by James Halliday. Weekend Australian October 18-19, 2003 Kilikanoons 2001 Covenant ($40) was entry No. 74, its 2001 Oracle ($40) entry No. 216; both made it through to the third day and ended up with gold medals, the first time a winery has achieved such a feat. All the more remarkable is that the previous vintage of each gained trophies at last years Clare Valley Show. Now in its 11th year, the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge has become one of Australia's most prestigious and valuable wine awards. The Challenge is a unique opportunity for Australia's premier red winemakers to showcase their Shiraz and to reinforce the reputation of the variety as a National and International wine icon. We congratulate the winner, also from the Clare Valley, Annies Lane 2001 Copper Trail Shiraz, a superb wine from a superb region. If there were any lingering doubts about the Clare Valleys ability to match the better known Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale areas in the production of great shiraz, the results of the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge over the last few years should dispel them.
