Wijngoed informatie "The history of the Miolo Family in Brazil begins in 1897, when thousands of Italian immigrants came to Brazil, hoping to find here new opportunities. Giuseppe Miolo, a youngster from Piombino Dese, a small place in the Italian region of Venetia, was one of them. With him, he brought the passion for grapes and for wine. After arriving in Brazil, Giuseppe settled in Bento Gonçalves, a town which had been recently established by Italian immigrants. With his savings he bought a piece of land, Lot 43, in a vineyard valley. It is not a coincidence therefore that Lote 43 is also the name of the noblest wine currently produced by Miolo.Back in 1897, this immigrant started to grow grapes and thus initiated the viticultural tradition of this family in Brazil. In the 70s, the family was a pioneer in growing fine grapes and Giuseppe Miolos grandsons, Darcy, Antônio and Paulo became known in the region for the quality of their grapes.Late in the 80s, a crisis affected the canteens and the sales of grapes had a downturn. Thus, Miolo family decided, in 1989, to produce its own wine and sell it in bulk to other wineries. Vinicola Miolo is then established.A few years later, in 1994, the company advanced to the next step, launching its own wine. The first bottle signed by the family was a 1990 Merlot. This initial lot totaled 8 thousand bottles.Growth was very fast. So fast that the family perceived that it should prepare an orderly expansion plan to ensure a sustainable growth. This required a plan focusing on quality. The passion for the vitiviniculture and the desire to present the Brazilian wine to the world inspired the Miolo Family to make the decision about expanding the business. That was how the Quality Project started in 1998. Since then, the company has not stopped growing. Investments in land, technology, human resources and in the very consumer have been constantly made. The Project for the Expression of the Brazilian Terroir was implemented. To ensure Miolos presence in the five main fine wine-producing regions of Brazil, some strategic alliances were made. The work developed jointly with the company Lovara is one of these cases, in which relevant results have been achieved in Vale do São Francisco and in Serra Gaúcha. The development of the RAR wine, jointly with the businessman Raul Anselmo Randon, is also highlighted, enhancing the Expression of the Brazilian Terroir concept which seeks to make use of the rich diversity of climates and soils in Brazil.Miolo has organized its future up to 2012 through a Strategic Planning, prepared in 2002. This document shows how the company intends to accomplish its objectives over the long term. It also records Miolo's mission, principles and vision towards being a reference of fine wine in Brazil. "
